3. Specify Detailed Product Item Spec and Estimating Spec |
Now detailed product item info and its estimating requirement can be specified with Product Spec tab and Estimating Spec tab.
Product Spec Tab: contains following product information
· Style Code, Style Name, Color Code, Color Name, Display Color (controls product color on the screen)
· Manufacturer, Vendor SKU number
· Discontinued checkbox
· Product image URLs (it can be linked to a web address or a local image file path)
There is no need to fill all the fields. Only Style Code is necessary for this whole tab.

If Discontinued box is marked, the item will be shown in red in material panel (as depicted below), when it is applied to rooms, the program will alert the user the discontinued status and prompt for the confirmation.

Estimating Spec Tab: specifies estimating requirements for this product. This information is used by the program in the actual calculation of material and labor usages.
· Layout Type (select from Carpet, Vinyl, Tile, Hardwood, Laminate and Line Item), the most important parameter.
· Depending what Layout Type is, the estimating requirement spec is different.
Layout Type: Carpet or Vinyl

· Unit Name: unit of measurement, select from SF, SY
· Width: the roll width, enter the length by keyboard OR select from the pull down list
· Roll Length: enter actual roll length or leave it 0’0” (assuming infinite roll length)
· Max T-seams: the maximum allowed number of T-seam in a room area
· Cut Margin: to add the specified cut margin to each roll cuts (as shown on the cut sheet window)
· Sales Price: price to customers (to appear in Worksheet and Quotation)
· Cost Price: internal cost price (to appear on Worksheet or Work Order)
For Patterned Material:
· Horizontal Repeat: pattern repeat in roll width direction
· Vertical Repeat: pattern repeat in roll length direction
· Horizontal Drop: pattern shift in roll width direction
· Vertical Drop: pattern shift in roll length direction
Either Horizontal Drop or Vertical Drop parameter can be set or NONE. They CANNOT be set at the same time.
Layout Type: Tile

· Unit Name: unit of measurement, select from SF, SY
· Size: tile piece width x length, enter the length by keyboard OR select from the pull down list. Decimal numbers can be entered, for example, 12.49”x12.49”, 6.44”x12.88” (Width and length DO NOT have to be equal).
· Unit/Box: containing number of SF unit per box (for example, 24.5 SF/Box)
· Grout: the gap in a fractional inch between two tile pieces (normally for ceramic tile installation). Key in the number or select from the pull down list.
· Sales Price: price to customers (to appear in Worksheet and Quotation)
· Cost Price: internal cost price (to appear on Worksheet or Work Order)
· Box Sales Price: the price per box (used when checked sell by box in Worksheet)
Calculation Method Options:
· Method 1: Automatic calculation: the program calculates the exact number of tile pieces for the covered area (excluding grout area), then translates to the square footages, and then gets the corresponding waste ratio versus the net floor area. Reuse Option can be set to either re-use 50% cut tile waste or none (as depicted below)

· Method 2: Add waste factor to floor area: the program calculates the net floor area, and then add the specified waste margin to the net area to get total square footage of tile usages (as depicted below).

Layout Type: Hardwood or Laminate

· Unit Name: unit of measurement, select from SF, SY
· Width: the plank width, enter the size by keyboard OR select from the pull down list
· Unit/Box: containing number of SF unit per box (for example, 24.5 SF/Box)
· Sales Price: price to customers (to appear in Worksheet and Quotation)
· Cost Price: internal cost price (to appear on Worksheet or Work Order)
· Box Sales Price: the price per box (used when checked sell by box in Worksheet)
· Waste Margin: the percentage waste to add on top of covered net floor area
Calculation Method: the program calculates the net floor area, and then adds the specified waste margin to the net area to get total square footage of hardwood or laminate usages.
.
Layout Type: Line Item

· Unit Name: unit of measurement, select from a range of area and length units: SF, SY, LF, EA (LF = Linear Foot, EA = Each)
· Unit/Box: containing number of SF or LF unit per box (for example, 24.5 SF/Box, or 15 LF/Box)
· Sales Price: price to customers (to appear in Worksheet and Quotation)
· Cost Price: internal cost price (to appear on Worksheet or Work Order)
· Box Sales Price: the price per box (used when checked sell by box in Worksheet)
· Waste Margin: the percentage waste to add on top of calculated net quantity

Calculate Methods:
| Methods | Formula | Application |
| Automatic by Unit | Quantity matches to the applied entity (either area, perimeter, wall length or corner point) | Drag-and-drop |
| Manual Entry | Quantity to be entered manually in Worksheet | Drag-and-drop |
| Material Usage | Area quantity matches to the associated material usages | Drag-and-drop
OR Material Association |
| Room Area | Area quantity matches to the net room area covered by the associated material (instead of the material usage area) | Drag-and-drop
OR Material Association |
| Room Perimeter | Length quantity matches to the perimeter (LF) of rooms covered by the associated material | Drag-and-drop
OR Material Association |
| Seam Length | Length quantity matches to the total seam length of the associated material | Drag-and-drop
OR Material Association |
|
For the topic on Material Association, see next section on Associate Line Items with Carpet, Vinyl, Tile, Hardwood and Laminate. |

Labor items should use Line Item as its Layout Type.
